HUD Dollhouse

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 10:52 PM
The HUD dollhouse is underway, without a moment to spare of course. So far, I replaced the most obvious trim, fixed the room and applied one coat of white paint. Not nearly enough. We're off to Wal-mart (shudder) for late night spray paint needs.

The bad thing about no Xmas entertaining? No leftovers. I think we're going to invite just a few folks over for dinner on New Years - something very, very low key. Pink and I have been eyeballing the Martini Macaroni and Cheese recipe from his new Best Lost Suppers cookbook. I may also be moved to make a pan of lasagna sometime in the next three weeks. Apparently it's fallen out of favor with everyone in my family but me.

The skin on my back is so dry that it feels like I have a sunburn. Ouch.

Fireworks!

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 6:04 PM
How does one find out if there will be fireworks going off on New Years Eve in the cities? I have looked on several city webpages but have not found any info.

Thanks!

It feels strange to not really celebrate Christmas on Christmas, but my sister's in Mexico on her honeymoon so we are having substitute Christmas next weekend on my dad's birthday.

We shoveled a lot yesterday and other than that I didn't really get much done at all. So it goes. So it goes.

Thanks!!

7 Good Things

  • Dec. 26th, 2009 at 10:32 AM
1. Fernie. Lawn & Snow Guy Extraordinaire. You ROCK Fernie.
2. Miss M for not only chosing to be with us on Christmas Eve, having so much fun that she wanted to be with us Christmas morning too!
3. My family. Charming, thoughtful, fun and funny.
4. Our good fortune. We had feasts and gifts that were truly obscene.
5. El Hubbo! We've aged together such that we did not have a single holiday fight which is generally speaking our one fight a year!
6. [info]annablume, hostess goddess, brilliant present-giver, best-est sister ever.
7. Being 71% complete with my holiday gatherings.

In my downtime, I've been knitting. Which sounds fraudulent even saying that. I've been playing with yarn making the most lopsided, bizarre washcloths ever while I experiment with what happens if I do this? I know that there are a lot of resources out there, people, paper and cyber that are happy to help me make something pretty, but that's not really my goal right now. Sorry.

Last night I played with alternating knit and purl stitches. After a few rows of PITA I looked to see it was just stripes. All that for just stripes. Lame. But that's the way I learn!

Okay. Now it can snow for the rest of the weekend.

When I got home from work, I thought I might not even have the energy to make a cocktail. But I rallied. ;-)

It takes you an hour to make one of these!? I only had 30 minutes of art time in elementary school!

Do you hate using sleeping bags out of some (not entirely irrational) fear that a grizzly bear could tear open your tent and find you to be a delicious and immobile delicacy? With this product from Japan you'll have no such fears; you will be able to jump up and run away, albeit without the use of your arms.

OK, so sometimes I have trouble distinguishing "ugly" from "weird" or "ridiculous." I'll let you judge this product on your own.

Christmas! With Miss M!

  • Dec. 25th, 2009 at 7:27 AM
I'm a kid in a candy store, a pig in (bleep), a very happy SW. Miss M is with us! First time EVAH. Okay, technically El Hubbo got to spend a Christmas with her when she was a baby but it's MY first Christmas with her!

First Santa! First morning mayhem! First first first! I don't even care that I've missed them all before -- I've got it now and it's good.

I don't get to keep her all day but I'll share.

Merry Christmas to everyone here, hope they're having a day like me!

Would anyone know of any clubs or even better any gay clubs, or maybe even any place to hang out at that is open on Christmas Eve night?

I'm going to get into the brandy now, so wishing you all a wonderful holiday with people you love.

I may hang the family from the chimney instead of stockings.

Okay.

Like a good girl, I studied all day yesterday and took my test. I really didn't want to. I wish I could say the test went off without a hitch and I'm sure my hard work will pay off, but the test just sucked. I've been comforting myself with the notion that it cannot negatively effect my grade. I choose to be happy with that.

In the meantime, I have a bunch of errands to run today. That's going to pretty much suck, too, on account of the snow. I have to go to the grocery store. I need supplies for Xmas morning brunch and Xmas afternoon work snacking. I need to go to Party City for more work crap, and I really could use a medium size crockpot. I need to get the gifts all wrapped up, tidy the house, and pre-cook what I can. My dinner party tonight in on the ass side of White Bear Lake.

Oh well. An elf's work is never done.
